Teamlink Travel Ltd is proud to announce our brand new LOS ANGELES GALAXY SOCCER EXPERIENCE

If you’re looking for a football tour with guaranteed sunshine, exciting excursions, excellent beaches & top-quality opposition for an extremely competitive price then please view the attached flyer. Our association with MLS outfit LA Galaxy – the home of David Beckham – includes a private viewing of a first team training session, stadium tour, 90-minute coached session by senior LA Galaxy staff and a Q&A with leading players such as Beckham, Cobi Jones, Landon Donovan, Abel Xavier, managing director Alexi Lalas as well as coach Ruud Gullit.

Teamlink Travel Ltd were recently awarded the prestigious Investors in People award by EMQC, a Derbyshire based company specialising in the assessment and development of organisations against National Quality Standards.

Investors in People recognises that organisations use different means to achieve success through their staff. It does not prescribe any one method but provides a framework to help find the most suitable means for achieving success through employees.

Independent assessor, Marta Simmons, concluded that “it was a pleasure to carry our this first assessment against the Investors in People standard. There is evidence to show that there is strong leadership and management, very effective communication and a healthy and supportive culture within the organisation. I therefore recommend that they be recognised as an Investor in People.”

Mark Gardner, Managing director, worked alongside Steve Walker of Steve Walker Associates for 12 months to complete the necessary framework for developing the business structure and staffing models. “Steve’s advice and support has opened up many new areas to our business and helped our junior and senior managers progress through the company. Our support of key management staff is integral to drive our business in the directions needed for required expansion. Through the training programmes provided and business guidance we are all confidently working towards an exciting future for Teamlink Travel Ltd.”

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Rugby Tour: USA '08

With The European weather proving somewhat unpredictable in 2008, The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Men’s & Women’s Rugby Clubs opted to head for sunnier climes; and what better place to spend a sunny April than in Californ-I-A!

A 55-strong squad of Officers, Captains, Majors and regimental staff boarded their Virgin Atlantic San Francisco-bound flight in London and started the trip in the home of Alcatraz, The Golden Gate Bridge and competitive West Coast USA Rugby. The women’s XV started brightly against San Francisco Fog’s women’s section but an experienced opposition pack dominated the early stages and opened up a 14-0 lead, which proved unassailable. Despite large periods of pressure, and sterling continuous defence, the tourists couldn’t pull back and succumbed to an opening victory that was closer than the score line suggested.

The men’s XV followed soon after and an impressive 3 days’ pre-game preparation reaped immediate dividends as No.8 Dimitri Sawyer made himself known to the opposition with a series of devastating line breaks that resulted in a handful of tries for the big back row man. The trend continued through to half time as RMAS ran the ball through 1-15 with numerous training ground moves sending the ball over the whitewash. Watton, Meadows, Libby, Stanning, Mardon, Dunlop and Duffus (2) piled the misery onto San Francisco Golden Gate and Man of the Match Sawyer returned as a late blood replacement to bag his fourth try and secure an impressive 88-0 opening game victory.

The team will move onwards to San Diego and Los Angeles with games against University of California San Diego and the United States Marine Core.

Drifters RFC Spend Easter in Zagreb

Long term Teamlink tourists Drifters RFC chose 2008 to spread their wings a bit, to venture beyond their normal central European haunts and head east to Croatia. Led by group organiser, John Hewes, this bubbly bunch of hardened rugby travellers landed in Zagreb for the Easter after a smooth flight.

The Croatian capital, like many in Eastern Europe, is renowned for three things – cheap beer, attractive natives and great bars and clubs. While John has gone to some lengths to uphold the first commandment – ‘What Goes on Tour Stays on Tour’ – he did let slip that the boys had some “memorable” evenings at Route 66 and Hemingway Bar.

Considering that the former is an old school roadhouse bar with a ‘rawk’ jukebox and strong, cheap Croatian beer, and the latter is one of the city’s most popular nightclubs, attracting the more eye-friendly locals, you can probably draw your own conclusions.

Drifters managed to fit a fixture against Zagreb RFC into their busy social schedule and while the result is lost in the mists of time, John summed up the experience: “The referee and touch judges joined in with the fun of the game. Some of the understanding of the laws was a little vague, but then so was some of our play!”

The after match hospitality was described as excellent – “We were treated to a very welcome with beer and food provided… They made very effort to ensure that we were looked after” – and it was with some regret that the team boarded their flight back to the UK.

“Teamlink sent Drifters RFC to Zagreb, Croatia for our Easter rugby tour 2008,” said John. “The Drifters will be forever grateful.”

Teddington RFC U12's Come of Age

Teddington RFC U12’s coming of age tour began as a bleary eyed travelling party of 21 children and 20 adults arrived at Gatwick Airport early on a Friday morning for their flight to Toulouse.

An uneventful flight and swift transfer to the Hotel IBIS was followed by an afternoon training session where squad got to grips with the French rugby principle of “opening the door”. In keeping with the Gallic tradition of free-running rugby, this is the practise of drawing defenders to make space for your team mates and keeping the ball alive for them to use.

This was followed by a quick shower and an emotional pre-dinner presentation where head coach Mike Lightfoot spoke about the boys’ individual contributions and Kevin Day, the club chairman, presented them, one by one, with their tour shirts to rapturous applause.

The following day, the group assembled in the morning for the trip to Balma Olmpique, who hosted a triangular tournament with FCTT. The games were blessed with blue skies and saw Teddington win one and draw one from five against strong French opposition – some of the opposition were from the year above – scoring 11 tries in the process. After an exchange of gifts and hospitality from the hosts, the tourists ventured into the city to watch the Six Nations matches, including France’s four try defeat of Ireland.

The next day saw a trip to Beaumont de Lomange where Teddington were coached by the hosts and treated to a two hour lunch. In the afternoon, the party proceeded to St Clar where Teddington Lions played Beaumont as a curtain raiser to the host’s senior league fixture. While they lost nine unanswered tries, on the second pitch Teddington Tigers ran Beaumont A much closer, losing 12 tries to 6 in an open game of running rugby.

Despite results not quite being what was expected, the boys had a great learning experience and the whole party could take home some fantastic memories of places visited and friendships made.

 Teamlink in the Community

Each season our company invests in a number of sponsorship schemes with sporting clubs and organisations.  The aim of the project is to assist development at either grass roots level or to enhance the progression of sporting enterprises through advertising income and further revenue streams.

The first team to benefit from our Community Scheme in 2008 has been The University of Staffordshire RFC who received funding for a new playing strip and training equipment.  Club Chairman, James Newby commented that "as a club we are indebted to the generous sponsorship from Teamlink Travel Ltd that has enabled us to fund state of the art playing kit and modernised training gear.  As a club we've enjoyed several successful tours with Teamlink and are looking forward to our next overseas trip in March 2008".

School Sports at Club Aire Libre

One of the main difficulties for school groups looking to organise a sports tour is ensuring that any proposed destination is suitable to satisfy the aims of the trip. What standard are the sports facilities? Can they cater for multi-sports? Is the accommodation up to scratch? Are there activities away from the fixtures to keep the group occupied? Is it a safe and enjoyable environment?

One resort that emphatically answers all of these questions is Club Aire Libre. Based on the Costa Brava in Spain, about an hour from Barcelona, this sports activity centre provides everything that even the most demanding groups could ask for.

Club Aire Libre offers full-board accommodation in purpose built chalets alongside dedicated meeting and study areas with computers and internet access. In sporting terms football, rugby, hockey, basketball and many more are catered for with excellent indoor and outdoor facilities, quality grass pitches and training from qualified coaches available. For fixtures, Teamlink has an extensive network of contacts with local clubs able to provide friendly competitive opposition for most age groups.

Away from the playing field, relax by the pool or take advantage of a wide range of activities including kayaking, archery, snorkelling and many more. Due to the location of Club Aire Libre, visitors can also choose from a host of excursions to Barcelona, Port Aventura theme park or Water World to name but a few.

As an example of the school sports packages we offer to the resort, St Peter's School from Gloucestershire embarked on a rugby and hockey tour for U15 and U16 age group pupils. The packed four day itinerary (click on pictures for larger images) featured six fixtures (two U15 rugby, two U15 hockey and two U16 hockey), daily training sessions, activity sessions on the custom built adventure trail, expansive buffet meals, a day trip to Barcelona and the Nou Camp stadium, and even a bit of karaoke!

For more information on how your school could enjoy a tour to remember at Club Aire Libre, call 01332 384111, email info@teamlink.co.uk or click here to complete our online enquiry form.

Dumfries RFC U18 Italy Tour

Just what does Italy have to offer junior sports teams? Ask Rob Orr, organiser of Dumfries RFC and he'll tell you: "A fantastic tour". Staying at picturesque Lake Como in the north of the country, the U18s had a four-day itinerary taking in two games local opposition, as well as the abundance of local restaurants and sightseeing opportunities. Regardless of the quality of the local fare, it was undoubtedly the fixtures that made the tour, the first of which came against RC Lecco. Even though the host side were an age group higher, this didn't dampen Dumfries' enthusiasm for the contest.

"This was a really hard game, physical and fast," said Rob. "We had no problem with [the age difference] and it made for a good game. This was an excellent fixture for our standard of rugby." He went on to describe the hospitality provided by Lecco as "excellent".

The second match was against Monza U18 and provided another tour highlight: "Again the fixture was brilliant and the host team and officials couldn't have made us feel more welcome."

And it wasn't just the teams who accepted Dumfries with open arms; the owner of a local resturant baked an extra special huge loaf of bread to present to the party (click on the picture to enlarge).

On returning to the UK, Rob was full of praise for a fulfilling four days in Italy: "Fantastic tour, the hospitality of our Italian hosts was outstanding, and we've come away with some memorable experiences. Thanks to Teamlink's organisation and co-ordination, the tour couldn't have been better. We are thinking about making this an annual tour for our U18 side."

 Teamlink at the Stockholm 10's

Now in it's 15th year, the Stockholm 10's is Europe's premier X-a-side tournament, attracting teams from all over the world. This year's event was bigger than ever with a record number of teams (56) competeing in Men's, Women's, Veterans, and U19's categories. As official UK agents for the event, Teamlink was proud to take teams from London Irish Academy, Saracens U19's, Dungannon RFC, Camberley WRFC, Boudiccas WRFC, and our very own Teamlink Titans invitational side to sample a rugby tournament Scandanavian style.

The visitors were greeted by a large, vocal crowd and sunny weather, with many of the matches televised on the Swedish national network. Tournament sponsors Kronenbourg were also on hand to ensure that spectators and players alike remained 'refreshed' over the weekend.

The two days of competition provided some great rugby with favourites Olorun Sharks and Susie's Saloon from Amsterdam dominating the Men's Cup competition and a Wooden Spoon select team from the UK - featuring 276 combined international caps - doing much the same in the Women's Cup. However, Teamlink sides acquitted themselves well with the Titans and Dungannon reaching the semi-finals of the Bowl and the Plate respectively. Camberley and Boudiccas (Plate and Cup) both went out in the quarters of the women's category, but special praise has to go to Saracens who took top honours in the U19's tournament, bringing home the cup. Well done lads.

Away from the rugby, the teams discovered took full advantage of the numerous bars, clubs and restuarants that Stockholm has to offer. Camberley deserve a special mention, with their Smurf antics amusing the locals. Check out some of the pictures from the weekend below.

 Junior Rugby in Poland

Hornets RFC Under 17s marked the end of the 06/07 season with a tour to Sopot in Poland. Based on the Baltic coast, this seaside resort lies in between the cities of Gdansk and Gdynia, with easy access to both for excursions. After an early flight from Stanstead Airport, the weary travellers spent much of the first day on the white sand beach, a welcome break after weeks of rain in the UK. Apart from the obvious attractions of the coastline, Sopot is a lively coastal city with plenty to entertain both players and supporters.

For days two and three, fixtures had been arranged against a club in Gdansk, Pruszcz Gdanski. Rugby is a growing sport in Poland but the hosts were a fit, physical team who were certainly up for a game. In temperatures well into the thirties, the match kicked off and Hornets opened the scoring within 3 minutes with a try from Nick Francis. The scoreboard ticked over steadily from there with the final score being 78-0, but it’s important to note that the Poles never gave up and played with great grit and determination. The match was followed by a barbecue and songs around the campfire with excellent hospitality from the hosts.

The next day saw even higher temperatures for the re-match. The Poles brought a strengthened team and ran out determined to give a better account of themselves. The previous evenings activities, Hornets struggled to get going and the heat took its toll on the already dehydrated lads. The final score was 54-0 with tries by Steve Thompson (4), YannThomas (2), Nathan Robinson, Matt Watkins, Tom Gibson, and George Powell one each, with conversions from Steve Thompson and Ollie Hardwidge. Once again the two teams joined together for a barbecue followed by a food tasting competition. As a gesture of good will and gratitude for the excellent hospitality, Hornets donated two sets of playing shirts and some balls to their new Polish friends. Hornest organiser, Garry Owen, said: "The tour was meant to be a big send-off for all the lads at the end of their junior rugby career before moving up to Colts and it was a great success."

Circle of Trust RFC on the March

Since their first tour in 2002, the Circle of Trust - a Barbarians-style invitational rugby team - has welcomed over 100 "caps" into their ranks, including players with National League 1 experience. Now in their sixth year, the COT are embarking on their most ambitious outing yet, taking on two tournaments in a season for the first time. As well as a fourth crack at the Lignano International Beach Rugby Cup in Italy, there will also be an apperance at the prestigious Stockholm X's, a nationally televised event in Sweden.

COT organiser, Teamlink managing director, Mark Gardner, has especially high hopes for the Italian competition; his team were beaten finalists three years ago. With a squad including players from Pertemps Bees, Blackheath and Moseley you can see why he might be quietly confident. Gardner said: "On paper we have our strongest squad to date and the aim of the weekend is to topple the consistent Italian and Irish contingents who have shared the trophy between them for the past 4 years."

Why not take your team on an adventure at one of the great tournaments we have on offer. Click here for details.

 Camberley RFC in More Magazine

During the first May Bank Holiday Weekend we sent three rugby teams to the Cologne Crusader Crusaders' Cup in Germany. One of those teams, Camberley RFC, were accompanied by a reporter and photographer from More, the popular women's magazine. The article appears this month and while normally "what goes on tour stays on tour", in this case "what goes on tour ends up in the pages of a national periodical". Pick up a copy and you'll get a feel for what a great touring city Cologne is as well as some funny pictures of Camberley in various states of (ahem) "refreshment". If you'd like some more information about the Cologne Crusaders' Cup, or any of our other tournaments and tours, click here for details.

 Wanted: Uni Rugby League Teams

Do you play Rugby League at University? Are you sick of the lack of touring options for teams in your sport? If the answer is yes then prepare to be happy. We have arranged a tournament to take place in Northern Spain in March 2008 and we are looking for two British University teams to take on the chalenge laid down by French and Catalan opposition. Additionally, we can also cater for any ladies RL teams that are interested. For more information, contact rugby@teamlink.co.uk.

Teamlink Travel Ltd is now offering bespoke tours to France for teams that are ready to say "Viva la Difference" and sample cricket on the continent.

With clubs in picturesque Brittany eager to face visiting opposition, we can provide made to measure packages including transport (coach & ferry or flight), accommodation, fixtures, excursions and insurance for a competative inclusive price. In fact, it's very likely that the cost of a four day Gallic experience will be little more than a comparative cricket tour in the UK.

So, if your ready to join the Foreign Legion of touring teams discovering the allure of France, email info@teamlink.co.uk or call 01332 384111 for further details.

 Magical Mystery Tours

Can't make your mind up where you want to go on tour? Not sure about budgets? Want to try a tour that's a little bit different? Then a Magical Mystery Tour could be just what you're looking for. All you need to do is specify when you'd like to go away, how long for, and give us a budget. With this information, we will create a bespoke tour package to your specifications but, and here's the fun bit, you won't have any idea where you are going until you get there on the day of tour.

The University of Derby RFC (pictured at their Action Day excursion) were one of the first teams to try this unique experience, with the whole group totally clueless that they were on their way to Ljubljana in Slovenia until they turned up at the airport. Group leader, Simon Jones, said: "Ljubljana was an ideal destination for us and we'd never have come up with it on our own. The mystery element added another level of enjoyment to the trip - we had a fundraiser where people had to guess where we were going. This was an amazing experience and I would recommend a Teamlink Mystery Tour to any touring team."

 Derby RFC U13's in Ireland

Choosing not to do things by halves, DRFC U13’s embarked on an epic tour to Ireland involving 72 people (28 adults, 42 kids and 2 Teamlink representatives), 5 games in 5 days, and a whole lot of fun.

With a packed playing schedule to get through, the lads got straight into the action with a game against Galwegians. Despite tries from Sam Martin, Lewis Madeley and Josh Miller, the tourists lost 20 – 17. However they could take heart from the display as the Irish side were an age group older (U14’s). This arguably stood them in good stead for the next game against Galway Corinthians. With the two teams undoubtedly well-matched it took a Bobby Carr effort to break the deadlock and hand Derby their first tour victory, 5 – 0.

Away from the rugby, kids and adults alike enjoyed a whole host of activities including ten pin bowling, a trip to the greyhound racing and watching the weekend of Six Nations rugby. Of course, no tour would be complete without a court session or two, but as you know, what goes on tour…

Other notable results from the weekend included a narrow loss and a narrow victory to 2 local schools sides. Despite a mixture of results, the tour was a success, with touring parent, Richard Madeley, adding: “Many thanks for a fantastic time in Ireland. So many people said it was by far the best tour they had been on."

 Charity Begins With You!

A new promotion from Teamlink Travel Ltd aims to raise funds for three charities. The scheme will involve a donation from the company to Cancer Research UK, Scope, and Whizz - Kidz, for every individual tourist that commits to a tour from 1st December onwards. Simply put, the more people that tour the more money these inspirational organisations will receive.

Company Director, Mark Gardner, has been a prolific fund raiser for all three charities during the last 12 months, and is a big supporter of the scheme. “I was looking for a new way to support the excellent work of these organisations”, he said, “and a suggestion in the office was to make a donation based on the number of people we send away on tour.

“In that way, we are not only raising vital funds for three very deserving organisations but also increasing their profile amongst our customers and, hopefully, inspiring people to fundraise themselves.”

 Oundle RFC U17's Tour

The five-day trip to Cologne took in two matches, the first of which was against Koln Crusaders. The visitors had brought a strong side with a number of county players and their superior ability shone through. Oundle beat their hosts 57 – 0 but Koln were in no way disgraced as they put in a decent performance and never stopped trying. The same could be said of Dusseldorf Dragons, who despite conceding 67 points for no reply, were commended for their efforts in what was only their third ever game.

“They were both committed, physical sides regardless of the high scores”, said Jim Billingham, the tour leader. “They are both sure to improve and the hospitality extended to us was great.”

As well as being renowned for its excellent nightlife, Cologne is also home to the Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria, one of Europe’s tallest cathedrals and the site of the highlight of Oundle’s tour. The boys all donned outfits for the end of tour court, held in the square near the towering monument.

“The most memorable thing was the superhero fancy dress tour court in front of Cologne Cathedral”, said Jim. “I was in tears!”

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and it was with heavy hearts (and, in some cases, heads) that the Oundle tour party boarded their executive coach to catch their flight back to the UK. The last word on must go to Jim, who summed up the trip: “Quite simply, it was excellent.”

Interested? Oundle RFC U17’s took 35 people on a five-day tour to Cologne, Germany for £285 per person. Please call 01332 384111, or e-mail rugby@teamlink.co.uk for an up-to-date quote on this destination or one of our many other touring options.

You think you had a busy Easter?

Teamlink Travel Ltd took 44 senior, student and junior teams (over 1,500 people) on tour to seven different countries over the holiday weekend. This included trips to exclusive events such as Strawberries Hockey Festival in Holland and the Cologne Crusaders’ Cup in Germany, as well as highly regarded junior rugby tournaments in Italy, Belgium and Holland. And all this was just a week after CalellaFest, Teamlink’s dedicated student event that saw over 2,000 UK undergraduates head to Spain for a week of fun in the sun.
